Lightchain Studio

Lightchain Studio is the IDE for building on Lightchain AI. It is built on Code - OSS, the open-source core of VS Code, so it has the same editor, keybindings, settings, themes and extensions. On top of that it adds:
  • Lightchain AI, a coding agent that runs on Lightchain's decentralized inference network. Each prompt is a job on chain, paid from your prepaid LCAI credits.
  • A wallet. Connect a browser wallet, or keep local accounts in your OS keychain.
  • Foundry built in. Build, test, deploy and verify contracts on Lightscan, with your Lightchain wallet signing every deploy.
  • Deployed Programs. A list of your contracts on each network, and a tab for calling them.
The only AI that ships with Studio is Lightchain AI. Extensions come from Open VSX, and the Extensions view also shows a curated Lightchain Marketplace section.
Versions: this page describes Lightchain Studio 0.1.0, the current release. Source: lightchain-protocol/lightchain-studio (MIT).

Studio and the Developer API

Studio and the Developer API both run inference on the Lightchain AI network, and both talk to the same server (https://chat-api.testnet.lightchain.ai on testnet). They use it differently:
Lightchain StudioDeveloper API
Who uses itYou, in the IDEYour app or server
Sign-inYour wallet signs in (SIWE); no API keyAn API key
RoutesThe protocol routes under /api (sessions, blobs, relay)The OpenAI-compatible routes under /v1
Session keyMade and kept in the IDE: prompts are encrypted before they leave your machine and answers are decrypted thereHeld by the API, which encrypts and decrypts for you (Custody and Trust)
PaymentYour prepaid balance in JobRegistry, spent by the server's delegate under an allowance you set from StudioYour prepaid balance, through the delegate path or a per-call payment (Payment)
Both pay from the same place: your prepaid balance in the JobRegistry contract. Credits you top up in Studio are the same balance the Lightchain AI chat and the Developer API's delegate path spend from.

Download

All builds are on the Releases page. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.txt.
The macOS DMG is not signed with an Apple Developer ID. If macOS blocks it, right-click the app and choose Open once.
Studio does not update itself. To update, download the new release. You also need Foundry to build, test and deploy contracts. If forge is missing when you run a build, Studio offers to install it.

First steps

  1. Open or create a project. On the Start page choose New Project, Open Folder or Clone Repository. New Project scaffolds a Foundry project set up for Lightchain.
  2. Connect a wallet. Click Connect Wallet in the status bar (bottom left). Choose Connect Browser Wallet to use MetaMask, Rabby, Coinbase Wallet, Brave or another browser wallet, or Create Account, Import Private Key or Import Recovery Phrase for a local account.
  3. Get testnet LCAI from the Lightchain faucet. Studio starts on testnet (chain 8200).
  4. Top up credits. Click the wallet in the status bar, then Top Up Credits. This deposits LCAI into your prepaid balance.
  5. Ask Lightchain AI. Type in the Lightchain AI panel in the right side bar, for example Create an ERC-20 token with a deploy script. If your wallet has not yet allowed Lightchain AI to spend its credits, the panel asks once (Allow) and then sends your prompt. Review each proposed change and accept or reject it.
  6. Build, test, deploy. Run Lightchain: Build, Lightchain: Test and Lightchain: Deploy Script from the Command Palette, or click Deploy above a contract. Deployed contracts appear in Deployed Programs.

Each project remembers its own network; a new project starts on testnet. On mainnet the status bar item turns to a warning color, and every transaction asks for an explicit confirmation first.
